Communication Providers

The Communication Providers template lists the available notification methods used to send notifications to administrators, approvers, and others.

Communication Providers can be found on the side-bar navigation: Advanced Settings > Communication Providers.

Adaptiva has several common Communication Providers configured for notification purposes. You can add new communication providers if the existing choices do not meet your needs.

The basic built-in Communication Providers included with OneSite Patch are:

  • HTML email

  • Simple email

  • HTML SMTP

  • Simple SMTP

  • SMS/Text

  • Microsoft Teams Notification

  • WhatsApp notification

Create a new Communication Provider

Creating a custom Communication Provider is useful if you have the same media types, but would like certain different behaviors for both.

For instance, you may want to use the provided HTMLEmailCommunicationProvider as is for certain patching notifications. Additionally, you could create another HTML based email Communication Provider with a different Communication Provider Implementation Workflow of your creation or choosing for a different patching notification.

  1. Click +New on the Communication Providers pane.

  2. Enter the following settings into the General Settings section:

    • Name - Give your Communication Provider a unique name.

    • (Optional) Description - Add a description for your Communication Provider.

  3. Next enter Communication Provider Properties

    • Media Type:

      • SMS/Text - Sends SMS/Text to users who have added their Text Message Phone Number to their Account Details.

      • WhatsApp - Sends a WhatsApp message to users who have added their WhatsApp Phone Number to their Account Details.

      • Teams - Sends a Teams message to users who have added their Teams Webhook URL to their Account Details.

      • Simple Email - Sends a simple text email from [email protected].

      • HTML Email - Sends a HTML formatted email from [email protected].

      • HTML SMTP Server - Sends HTML formatted email from your custom SMTP server. Use Email Notifications must be toggled on and setup via Event Notifications in order for this to work as expected.

      • Simple SMTP Server - Sends simple text formatted email from your custom SMTP server. Use Email Notifications must be toggled on and setup via Event Notifications in order for this to work as expected.

    • Supports Message Aggregation - Toggle ON to enable message aggregation (i.e. multiple messages become a single message).

    • Supports Subject Line - Toggle ON to enable the Subject Line.

    • (SMTP Server HTML/Simple ONLY) From Address - Address from which you want your users to receive from. Must match Event Notifications From Address, or left blank.

  4. Browse and add a Communication Provider Implementation Workflow under the Dynamic Communication Provider Settings.

  5. Click Save

Open and Save a Communication Provider Template

If you wish to modify one of the existing Communication Provider templates, please follow the steps below.

  1. Select Communication Providers in the left navigation menu of the Patch Management Dashboard.

  2. Select the Name of an existing template from the table to open it.

  3. Select More > Save As.

  4. Enter a new unique name and click Save As.

  5. Modify any desired General Settings, Communication Provider Properties, or Dynamic Communication Provider Settings by following the steps above in the Create new Communication Provider section.

  6. Click Save.
